  In vivo antinociceptive activity of three different extracts of the aerial parts of Justicia gendaru
   

Abstract:

In the present study antinociceptive activity of petroleum ether, alcoholic (95%) and aqueous extracts of the aerial parts of Justicia gendarussa Burm. f. (Acanthaceae) were determined by various established models such Hot Plate Method, Acetic acid induced writhing test and Formalin induced paw-licking test in two different doses (250 mg/kg p.o and 500 mg/kg p.o). Pentazocin (4mg/kg i.p) and Diclofenac sodium (3mg/kg i.p) was used as standard drugs.  All the extracts (except pet. ether of 250 mg/kg p.o dose) showed significant analgesic activity in dose dependent manner.
