ASSESSMENT OF ENERGY AND NUTRIENTS INTAKE: A SIX WEEKS DIETARY SURVEY PROGRAM IN GHARIAN DISTRICT, L

Nutrient profiling is a highly pressing issue. A Six weeks diet-based measurements including daily routine dietary survey was conducted, of people living in various areas of city Gharian. The exhaustive analysis carried out in terms of food quality food type, the energy intake, output, its consumption in routine day, and time interval per day per week of meals. The nutrient variables i.e., carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and supplements were examined as Total daily Energy Intake (EI) as Cal/day. Great variations were recorded in daily energy intake (1610-2021 Cal) dispersed across several meals, with on average 18% of the energy coming from in-between-meal consumption. Main energy sources were rice, chicken, meats, pasta and soups. The study showed overall carbohydrates intake (160.7-236.4g) was less than that recommended by FAO and WHO, while lipids and proteins intake (64.6-84.5g), (55.8-78.4g) respectively was higher. The ingredients qualities, rather than quantities and the total amount, were emphasized. A regular meal pattern with a relatively high proportion of energy from in-between-meal eating occasions and a low intake of specially fruits were typical of this group of people. The socioeconomic status of the individual family also contributed to the differences in the individual pattern of food habit and the life style was a contributory factor.
