  Comparative Studies on Antioxidant Properties of Andrographis Paniculata Aerial Parts Grown in Diffe
   

The antioxidant activity of the aerial parts of Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f) grown in three different areas of Bangladesh was evaluated in this study. The antioxidant activity was performed on five complementary in-vitro method namely DPPH free radical scavenging activity, reducing power assay, total antioxidant capacity, total phenolic content & total flavonoids content determination. The result revealed that the methanol extract demonstrated the presence of highest amount of phenolic and flavonoid contents ( 84.380.26 mg GAE/g of sample & 628.190.12 mg GAE/g of sample) and also showed significant antioxidant activity ( IC50 value 1.110.012 mg/ml). DPPH radical scavenging activity of methanol extract is Natore standard sample>Natore sample>Kustia sample>Gaibandha sample. Reducing power assay of methanol extract is Natore standard sample>Natore sample>Kustia sample>Gaibandha sample. Total antioxidant capacity of methanol extract is Natore standard sample>Natore sample>Kustia sample>Gaibandha sample. Total phenolic content of methanol extract is Natore standard sample>Natore sample >Gaibandha sample>Kustia sample. Total flavonoid content of methanol extract is Natore standard sample>Natore sample>Kustia sample>Gaibandha sample. A positive correlation was observed between the total phenolic content and total antioxidant capacity of A. paniculata having correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.83. These results indicated that the analyzing plant part of A. paniculata could be potential sources of natural antioxidants and thus provide the scientific basis for the traditional uses of this plant as antioxidant.
