  PHYTOCHEMICAL AND MEDICINAL PROPERTIES OF Cinnamomum tamala- A REVIEW
   

Cinnamomum tamala is a widely used medicinal plant in India. The genus Cinnamomum comprises of 350 species. Among these Cinnamomum tamala is one of the economical species belonging to this genus. The plant is indigenous to Asia minor and southern Europe. It contains active volatile compounds such as mono and sesqui-terpenes, α- pinene, linalool,cinnamaldehyde etc. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiulcer, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anticarcinogenic and anti-diarrhoeal effects. Indian cassia also have astringent, carminative, diuretic, stimulant properties.
