  Hepatoprotective Activity in the Plants of Lamiaceae

Plants of the family Lamiaceae are mostly aromatic herbs and shrubs with a distribution throughout the world under a variety of climatic conditions. Many members of this family are used in traditional and folk medicine. Also they are used as culinary and ornamental plants. A wide range of compounds such as terpenoids, iridoids, phenolic compounds and flavonoides have been reported from the members of the family. Plants of the family have shown there significance in a variety of illnesses such as gastrointestinal, systemic, anti-infective, C.N.S., urinary-genital, respiratory, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, dermatological, circulatory and ophthalmic disorders. In this review an attempt has been done to highlight the work on plants of Lamiaceae having hepatoprotective potential.
